2 Samuel 23:11-12, Ephesians 6:13

I love the story of Shammah, One of King David's Mighty Men in 2 Samuel. Its only two verses but so much is said in between the lines. He took his stand when everyone else ran away from the enemy, in a patch of peas.  "This is Mine. This is my territory and you can't have it."  So he dug in his heels and fought for his territory. He held the line when everyone else retreated. He didn't. Our promises are our territory. What are you fighting for? What happens when we must hold out against the onslaught? We get tired, it rains, the unexpected happens..."What is taking so long?" We ask. Or at least I do. But that is exactly the spot a promise is made for. That moment, right there. "This is mine. You can't have it" and we stand up, we dig in our heels, we set our faces toward the enemy and Hold The Line with our promise and our faith until what was promised arrives." ...having done everything, to stand firm" (Eph. 6:13).
